Persimmon facts, for the persimmon-curious
- Fuyu are the squat, tomato-shaped ones. Eat them crisp like an apple, skin and all.
- Hachiya are the acorn-shaped ones. Wait until they are soft as a water balloon, or they will make your whole mouth go dry.
- Fuyu keep for a week or two on the counter and longer in the fridge.
- Slice one sideways and you may find a little star in the middle.
- Dried persimmons are called hoshigaki in Japan and gotgam in Korea.
